Agriculture is a bulwark of the
local economy. Some major farm products include beef cattle,
poultry, corn, hay and dairy products. A major employer in the area
is Celanese Fibers Corp.
The famous song "Almost
Heaven, West Virginia" is most appropriate for our part of the
Mountain State, which truly lives up to its description as Wild and
Wonderful West Virginia.
Each year
the big annual West Virginia State Fair is held at nearby Fairlea and
attracts upwards of 50,000 visitors daily. The Farmer's Day
Celebration is another special event. Held in early June in Union, it
features a parade, arts & crafts exhibition, dance, booths and other
festivities. Throughout the year many civic groups, churches, private
and business organizations offer ample opportunity to keep active and
enjoy the many social and recreational advantages of the community and
the area. |
